16-Feb-12:
Balbriggan Youth Service's first band night of the year took place in The
Milestone's newly refurbished function room on Friday February 10th. Over 160
young people packed into the Milestone for this mid-term break celebration to
see 6 local acts whip up a musical frenzy. Performers
on the night were Lifeline, Ciarán Mackey, Lauren Walsh, Young Money, Amy and
Lora and The Legs. Anyone who was there will tell you that one of the real successes
of these band nights is the clear diversity present in terms of both performers
and audience. | | Herbert

It is a heart-warming
sight to enter a room full of enthusiastic multicultural young people partying
together and going wild for home-grown talent. This is peer support at its best.
One minute the crowd are hypnotised by the haunting acoustic tones of Lauren Walsh
and then nodding their heads to the suave stylings of rap trio Young Money. And
in their first headline performance of their careers, The Legs made a statement
of intent with watertight renditions of accomplished originals and cleverly chosen
covers. They had the place absolutely hopping as the lights came up and really
promise to be an exciting Irish band in years to come. Balbriggan
Youth Service are managed by national youth organisation Foróige. The purpose
of Foróige is to enable young people to actively and consciously engage in their
own development and in the development of society. | | Young
