Poker Classic in aid of Irish Guide Dogs

The annual poker night in aid of the Balbriggan\North County Dublin Branch of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind took place on Friday night 29th January in Whites Pub Stamullen. The poker night was well attended and once again organizer Maureen Andrews of Bellewstown has donated all of the prizes for the raffle which makes up a good part of the nights takings. She was assisted as always by Paula Townley and Ollie Hanratty.

The running of the night was done by Gabriel Howard and his wife Kay who we want to congratulate on their recent celebrations of their 46th wedding anniversary. Brendan Battersby owner of the pub put on a beautiful selection of food for all and this went down really well at the break.

Tom O’Neill guide dog owner from Balbriggan spoke highly of the organizing skills of Maureen and the great support Maureen gets annually for the poker night and thanked everybody for attending. On the night Tom introduced new guide dog owner to Balbriggan Andrew Green and his guide dog Nico to the crowd. Tom and his wife Breege had started fundraising for guide dogs at the time Andrew was born some 30 years ago but Andrews words were so true, “If you people did not support the work of Irish guide dogs for the blind I may not now have a guide dog. Thank you on behalf of all of us who need Guide and Assistance dogs for your continuing support to Irish guide dogs for the blind. Without your support we would not have our mobility, freedom and independence”
