Saturday night saw the launch, by broadcaster Pat Kenny of Ardgillan Castle Revealed a new book by Aidan Herron former principal of St Teresa’s Primary School Balbriggan with photography by Eamon O’Daly. A lavishly illustrated, full colour book, Aidan brings history alive with a wealth of delightful and unexpected detail.  Aidan’s stories combine perfectly with the spectacular photographs from Eamon O’Daly to offer the reader precious insights into the privileged lifestyles experienced “above stairs”  and the contrasting hardships “below stairs” that attached to earlier times

Ardgillan Castle  house was built by the Reverend Robert Taylor in 1738. The house remained in the Taylor family until 1962 when the estate was sold to Heir Henrich Potts of Westphalia.

It was wonderful to see Terence Taylour of the Ardgillan family and his wife Lindy there as well as former head of Parks Michael Lynch who was instrumental in acquiring Ardgillan Castle for the public back in the 80’s.  Other notable guests to name but a few included Mary McKenna MBE and Bettina Byrne great granddaughter of Herr Heinrich Potts and her son Stefan.   Herr Heinrich Potts bought Ardgillan Castle from the Taylour family in 1962.

The book is the perfect Christmas gift for anyone interested in local history and all proceeds from the book will be donated to Ardgillan Castle towards the provision of suitable display facilities for it’s collection of historical artifacts.
