We reported earlier in the year about a new collaboration between Balbriggan Tidy Towns and Ardgillan Community College. The CSPE students led by teacher Caroline Doherty undertook a bulb planting project with the Tidy Towns team in early winter and then they hosted a member of the Tidy Towns team in the school to do a presentation on ‘Community Stewardship’ in January of this year.

The link between the school and the Tidy Towns volunteers grew ever stronger last week, when Ms Doherty contact the team to to say the pupils has organised a fund raising event in the school and now wished to present the funds to the Balbriggan Tidy Towns.

Terry O’Reilly the volunteer who had initiated the collaboration and Alex McCullagh the Tidy Towns treasurer where delighted to attended the college last Friday for the presentation of the €352

‘We were delighted that students undertook this fund raising event, it demonstrates that they valued the participation in our local activities and they recognised that extra funds would help us to extend our projects further into the community’ said Terry O’Reilly.

It is hoped that the strong links that were built this year between Balbriggan Tidy Towns and Ardgillan College and Balbriggan Community College will continue into the next academic year. In these difficult economic times it is heartening to see the younger members of the community supporting the hard working Tidy Towns volunteers. Well done Ardgillan College !
