Balbriggan and District Chamber of Commerce held their AGM on Thursday the 1st of March 2012. The meeting was well attended by members wishing to hear about the Chambers performance in 2011 and the future plans for the 2012. The financial accounts for 2011 were reviewed and accepted by the members as were the minutes of the 2011 AGM. A new Executive Council was elected along with Executive Officers.
Joseph English the outgoing President thanked all who had helped him during his tenure. He stated ‘I am very proud of the achievements of the Chamber over the last two years and in particular the fact that we have set up a permanent office that can support our members in their business activities. We have been able to achieve our goals through team work and having the protection of Balbriggan’s economic future as our shared aim.’
The incoming President Kevin Tolan was delighted to receive the chain of office and thanked Joe English for his dedicated work over the previous two years.
Kevin Tolan added ‘I am looking forward to working with the newly elected Executive Committee, we have much hard work to do to combat the difficult economic climate, but I believe Balbriggan Chamber has a pivotal role in achieving continued success for Balbriggan.’
A 2011 Annual report was presented to all members which detailed the successes the Chamber has been involved with such as the Paint and Floral schemes which have enhanced the retail shop fronts and the overall look of the main street. Future projects are currently being established and a five year Strategic plan is being developed for 2012 to 2017.
Zoe Nelson, the Chamber manager, explained to those present that two Organisational Development work shops had been planned for March and April at which the new executive committee would draw up a Strategy for achieving Business success for Balbriggan for 2012 and beyond. ‘She stated that in these challenging economic times we must all stick together and work together in the most efficient way possible, so that we make best use of the resources available.’ All members are invited to contribute to the five year plan and the completed plan will be published at the end of April. She also added that Balbriggan Town Council and Fingal County Council had proven to be excellent partners in the past and she looked forward to a continued partnership with both organisations.
