Balbriggan Classified as a ‘Self-Sustaining Town’ in Variation no.2 to the Development Plan
June 19, 2020 ADMIN 0Cllr. Tony Murphy has advised that on 19th June 2020 Fingal County Council have passed Variation no.2 to the Development Plan. I welcome that Balbriggan has been now classified as a ‘self-sustaining town’, in this context.
I requested that the C.E. will give an assurance that Balbriggan, will acquire targeted investment to generate local employment and infrastructure, both physical and social, to enable Balbriggan develop at a more sustainable level into the future and that any proposed increase in housing units is balanced against said investment in employment and infrastructure as is required for ‘self-sustaining towns’ in the current Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES) for the Eastern & Midland Region.
The variation will impact Castlelands Masterplan which is due to come before the councillors at the end of the year. There will be need for further strong debate on the design elements of this Masterplan says Cllr. Murphy.
