The students of 1st year at Balbriggan Community College have again passed another milestone in the history of the Rockabill Roseate Tern Conservation Project. This year the school produced the 1000th nest box with the great help of their Woodwork teacher Mr. Jim Boylan. balbriggan_community_college_logoThe project is managed by Birdwatch Ireland since 1988. The project has been enormous success and the contribution of the nest boxes to the scheme has been hugely significant. The breeding population has risen from 150 pairs to over a 1000 pairs in 2014.

The students at the college have been making boxes since the early 1990’s and thanks are due to Mr. Noel Harford and Mr. Eugene Macken who have also guided their woodwork classes on the project over the intervening years.

The Fingal Branch of Birdwatch Ireland has to co-ordinate the project since 1990 has organised delivery of timber annually to the school and supports the project financially.  Well done to all involved.
