Balbriggan Credit Union Sets Up New Community & Social Responsibility Fund

Local credit union and its members to give to local community projects and good causes. Balbriggan credit union and its 15,000 members have announced the establishment of a new community and social responsibility fund which is set to assist local community projects and causes.

The go ahead was given by vote at the Balbriggan credit union AGM in December 2012. The move highlights the role that credit unions and their members can play in local communities. In a time of national economic downturn, Balbriggan credit union is particularly glad to be in a position to offer assistance to vital community services which in some instances, serve the most vulnerable in our society.

Since 1967 Balbriggan credit union has been providing local, accessible and friendly financial services to its members. Over the past 45 years, the credit union has and continues to play an active role in the local community and currently sponsors the Balbriggan Summerfest and Balbriggan Formula Fun as well as sponsoring the annual community trip to Lourdes. The establishment of the community and social responsibility fund reinforces Balbriggan credit union’s dedication to the local area and the people living there.

Any voluntary, sporting or community organisation can apply for funding. All requests for funding should be in writing addressed to the Board of Directors of Balbriggan credit union. Payments made from the fund are at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors

Speaking about the new fund Sean Staunton Manager of Balbriggan credit union said: “Credit unions are at the heart of Irish communities and we know on-the-ground the vital nature of the services that community groups provide. In these difficult economic times, when many youth, sporting and community projects are being hit by the recession, Balbriggan credit union is particularly glad to be able to make a contribution and give something back to communities that have supported us over the past 45 years”
