Garda Kate Daly Ní Bhroin and Garda David Sheeran liaised with Paul Keogh, FAI development officer for the district in the running of the football tournament, on the 19th of April for youth’s aged between 13-19 years within the town. The tournament was held in Glebe North football club, Balbriggan, between 12pm-4pm. It follows on from the Garda/Fai “Late Night League” which is run in conjunction with local authorities youth groups and Community Garda Policing Units, and aims to provide a safe, fun and healthy social alternative for teenagers. Approximately 120 youths participated on the day.
Each team participating got to play between three and four games on a league basis with the top four teams of each category than playing in a semi final, third and fourth place play off and subsequently the final. The winners of both the junior and senior categories received tickets to the football match between Ireland and Northern Ireland which takes place on the 24th of May 2011 in the Aviva stadium.
The winners will be brought to the match by Garda Daly Ní Bhroin and Sheeran. Deputy Commissioner Rice, from Garda Headquarters attended the event presenting prizes on the day.
Tesco Ireland, Balbriggan kindly provided an Easter Egg for each youth who participated on the day. The Community of Balbriggan supported this initiative with local school staff, local businesses, Glebe North football club, volunteer referees and the weather on the day all playing a part, ensuring the day was a huge success.
