Balbriggan Harbour Murals Brighten up the Storage Containers

August 9, 2020 0

The project started with joining Balbriggan Tidy Towns and a fit of madness and passion to paint murals engaging the community by Balbriggan resident Lizzy Noone. The first mural on John Lawlor’s container on the harbour planned to engage the community by inviting them to write quotes based on care of our planet and people, it became so much more as creative Balbriggan and Skerries people came out of the woodwork to add colour and design egged on by the most lovely community of fishermen and women on the harbour.

The atmosphere created was too good to not continue so Lizzy decided to ask the owner Colin Costello of the big wine container for his permission to paint and he thankfully agreed.  This project grew organically in to a wonderful community experience bringing together people young and old and from many different places and walks of life.

The group would like to thanks the fishermen on the harbour for the craic, to the Fingal County Council for funding the paint and Bracken Court Hotel for bringing lunch to the harbour for us one day. We don’t think you’ve seen the last of them!

A big well done to all involved!

In 2013 ran the Balbriggan Harbour Container Transformation project to paint some of the containers with beautiful beach huts and we are glad to say that the paint has held up well,  click here to view the first phase and click here for phase 2.
