Balbriggan Meals on Wheels is delighted to take delivery of their new minibus!

March 26, 2021 0

Back in 2019 a fundraising campaign was launched by Balbriggan Meals on Wheels to purchase a minibus to strengthen their service within the wider Balbriggan community. Thanks to sponsorship received from Progressive Credit Union, Balbriggan, and the H.S.E., along with money raised through their Monster Raffle and other fundraising ventures Balbriggan Meals on Wheels are thrilled to have been able to purchase this new vehicle. Whilst the project was delayed considerably due to the constraints of Covid-19 over the past year, they are finally on the road.

Balbriggan Meals on Wheels was founded in 1975 in order to provide meals for people who were ill, recovering from illness, or for some reason are unable to care for themselves. Balbriggan Meals on Wheels currently provides more than 80 meals per day, with meals delivered to the most vulnerable people in our community; people who are referred to us by Public Health Nurses and Social Workers.

Balbriggan Meals on Wheels look forward to using our new bus now in addition to our volunteer drivers to transport meals to our clients.

Unfortunately, at present, their Dinner Club, which pre-Covid operated three days per week at our Hampton Street base has been suspended. Balbriggan Meals on Wheels look forward to getting back up and running as soon as it is safe to do so. The new bus will be of enormous help with transportation of clients as soon as this can resume.

Balbriggan Meals on Wheels would like to thank most sincerely Progressive Credit Union in particular Brian Howard, the H.S.E. and all those who contributed in any way to our fundraising events.
