Balbriggan RFC Stingers host their first ever blitzAugust 20, 2018 ADMIN 0
The Balbriggan RFC Stingers hosted their first ever blitz, when they welcomed teams from DLSP Eagles, Coolmine Pumas, Tullamore Tigers and Cill Dara Foxes to Balbriggan RFC today. All of the teams put on a great display of rugby as they were cheered on by a large crowd of supporters.
All matches were played in a great spirit and it was obvious that everyone had a great time. After all the activity, the players and their families enjoyed a bbq. All in all the day was a tremendous success. Thanks to all the teams and their coaches and mentors for a great day of rugby. It was good to see Norman O’Leary, Chairman of Leinster Rugby’s Inclusive Rugby Committee there. Ciaran Russell, newly appointed Fingal Community Sports Development Officer in Balbriggan, also came along to see the teams play.
Balbriggan RFC would like to thank their club sponsors Progressive Credit Union for supporting the Blitz. Without their continued support, events such as this simply could not happen. Thanks also to all from Balbriggan RFC who helped out on the day. It takes a team of workers to make a day like this happen. The lovely marquee was hired from John Doran.
Special mention must go to Fearghal and Tara Clarke and to Kevin Sweeney for doing a great job on the bbq, it’s not an easy task feeding upwards of 100 people. Finally, thanks to Leigh O’Toole, Balbriggan RFC’s Director of Rugby. Leigh organised and co-ordinated the blitz and ensured the smooth-running of the day.
This was a very eventful weekend for the Stingers as they played a half-time exhibition match in Donnybrook on Friday evening during the Leinster v Newcastle Falcons pre-season friendly.
New players are always welcome to join this growing team. Training takes place every second Sunday at Balbriggan RFC. The next training session is on on Sunday September 2nd at 10.30am.
