Balbriggan/North County Dublin Branch of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind AGMApril 30, 2013 ADMIN 0
Friday night 19th April saw The Balbriggan\North County Dublin Branch of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind come together for their 2013 Annual General Meeting which was held in O’Dwyers G.A.A. club and there was a really good turnout. There was a mixture of fundraisers, people with guide dogs, puppy walkers and parents of children with Autism.
During 2012 the group raised in excess of €68,000 and this was formally handed over to the commercial Manager of Irish Guide Dogs Sinead O’Keeffe who attended the meeting from head office in Cork. Sinead thanked all volunteers and supporters for their hard work for the Association during the Year and encouraged the branch to continue doing the very hard work of fundraising
Catherine Walsh from Swords tandem cycling paraolympian was guest speaker. Catherine told of the hard work and dedication it takes to become an elite athlete. She proudly displayed the silver and bronze medals she had won at the London games in 2012.
Mr. Seán McCormack, a member and director of the Balbriggan Credit Union attended and presented the branch with a brand new coin sorting-counting machine sponsored by the Balbriggan Credit Union through their new Community and Social Responsibility Fund.
Tommie Nugent the branch counter box and large dog co-coordinator thanked Sean and the C. U. for this funding as he said the branch were losing volunteers as they did not like counting coin by hand. The machine was supplied by Moneypoint, Turvey Business Park, Turvey, Co Dublin.
Cuddles Pet Shop, Spec Savers, Balbriggan Credit Union and Maura Ellis were awarded presentation photographs by the Branch in recognition of their support and fund raising for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. Damien O’Shaughnessy and Anne McFadden were awarded the annual Máire and Ned Maguire perpetual trophy in recognition of their stalwart fundraising through their annual Féis in the Naul.
As soon as the formal meeting was over finger food arrived and 10 traditional musicians came and entertained late into the night free of charge. It is a firm belief of the branch that you must have fun to enjoy fundraising and in this branch this is done.
The branch is always busy and the next fundraising event is selling “Shade Pins” in the Milfield Shopping Center Balbriggan on Thursday 2nd May and Friday 3rd of May.
Other events coming up shortly will be a Tractor run in Garristown on 12th May organized by Billy McGrath 0862621543. That will be followed by two National events, which the branch will participate in a dog walk and a bag pack.
