July 14, 2017 0

Today saw the start of the Big Dig at Bremore castle in Balbriggan. Participants will be joining  Christine Baker-Fingal’s Community Archaeologist digging in the walled garden of this 16th century fortified house. It is hoped to uncover information about the layout of gardens and to answer questions about what was here before the castle was built.

Bremore Castle Big Dig‘There is so much we want to discover about Bremore Castle’ said Community Archaeologist Christine Baker ‘and to do this we need people to come and dig’.

The community excavation will be underway for two weeks between 14th to the 28th July 2017, every day except Mondays. It is open to everyone over 18 to take part and don’t worry if you’re not up to digging, there are other ways to get involved from to sieving for finds to washing and cataloguing what has been unearthed.

We look forward to hearing what is uncovered as the dig progresses…
