Castlelands draft Master Plan spells disaster for Balbriggan

April 26, 2019 0

Fingal County Council’s plan for Castlelands is a disaster says Cllr Tony Murphy. The Castlelands Master Plan, presented to the local Councillors at the Balbriggan/Swords Area Committee meeting on Thusday, 11th Apr 2019, has raised many concerns says the Councillor.  In the context of the Socio-Economic Strategy for Balbriggan, due to be launched on 9 May 2019, its incredible to think says Murphy, that before any of the proposed supports have been delivered, Fingal County Council has decided to launch a plan to deliver 1,000 more houses into the community.

  • 6 story high apartments
  • Very high density
  • Lack of control on ownership
  • No traffic management plan
  • Potential for vulture fund purchase
  • No control on percentage of private, social and affordable elements

The Socio-Economic Strategy for Balbriggan has been prepared as a response to the large scale housing developments delivered into Balbriggan over a very short time frame which had no proper infrastructure or supports.

This proposed Castlelands development is premature and Balbriggan needs time to consolidate its communities before any further large scale housing development is considered in Balbriggan says Cllr Murphy.

Cllr Murphy urges all concerned residents to make a formal submission to Fingal County Council to express their concerns.

You can watch the Balbriggan/Swords Area Committee webcast where the plan was announced here

The Draft Master Plan will be on public display in Balbriggan Town Hall and County Hall Swords from 7th to 20th May and online at fingalcoco.ie.  The final date for submissions is the 28th May 2019.
