Congratulations to Katie Taylor on winning Gold at the London 2012 Olympics for Ireland. The first time that Women’s boxing has been in the Olympics and Katie certainly showed that she deserved her place there.. This adds to Katie’s immaculate record of four World Amateur Championships, five European Amateur Championships and four European Union Amateur Championships, topped of with an Olympic Gold Medal What a gal!
Irish Boxing is dominating the news this week and RTE visited Balbriggan’s Bracken Boxing Club on Monday night to interview Coach Kieran O’Neill and Boxers Christy O’Reilly and Gerard Whitehouse. Balbriggan Street Olympics took place on Monday 6th August and what a fantastic day it turned out to be. The teams had the chance to compete in a series of challenges which included boxing, archery, athletics, soccer and tennis. There was some great competition on the day and the teams even stopped play so that they could watch Katie Taylor’s win in the quarter final in the London 2012 Olympics. (more…)

Congratulations to Balbriggan man, Mark Russel-Hill who won the A4 cycling race in Donore, Co. Louth on Sunday. This was only Mark’s fourth race and he did very well to get away on his own and hold off the bunch for the last 1.5 laps of the 6.4 km circuit. The race was took place over 8 laps of the circuit. Congratulations to Balbriggan Cricket Club 1st Team on their win tonight against local Fingal rivals the Hills in the Senior II cup final. Balbriggan last won this competition in 2010 and now take the trophy back to Balbriggan where it belongs. Well done guys!
Aidan Smith Chairperson of the Juvenile Committee and Denise Corcoran, Juvenile Secretary held an appreciation night in the O’Dwyers GAA clubhouse in Balbriggan on Saturday 21st July.
