Cllr Power welcomes voids stimulus programme and urges Balbriggan residents to keep raising void property issuesSeptember 15, 2020 ADMIN 0
Councillor Karen Power, has welcomed the news that a total of €3,125,215 to Fingal County Council as part of the 2020 Voids Stimulus Programme which will see 238 social housing units refurbished and re-let to individuals and families, struggling with homelessness or on the social housing list.
Speaking on the announcement, Cllr Power said;
As the fastest growing and youngest population in Ireland, Fingal is in the frontline of the current housing crisis. With thousands on the housing waiting lists and the level of homelessness it is unacceptable to have houses sitting vacant when so many people need a home. We have to use our existing stock better and I am hopeful that this funding will help Fingal County Council in this regard.
While I welcome the funding I am cautious that we cannot afford to become complacent. I would encourage people to keep raising issues about houses that are void to put the pressure on the council to spend this funding and secure further funding. One family being housed is one family that is no longer homeless. Apart from the human impact of a family not having a home, there is a financial cost to the Council and public at large by having homes lying idle for so long.
