I met with the officers of Balbriggan Rugby Club over last few months and in the Dail some time ago, and I want to commend their determination and persistence in pursuing this project for families in Balbriggan and Balbriggan RFC members said Cllr Tom O’Leary

I have lobbied 3 Ministers and Fingal Co Council to move this amenity project on to the next stage.

I want to acknowledge the assistance of Minister Brian Hayes Finance & OPW the Fine Gael Euro election candidate and local Minister James Reilly who assisted me in organising the meeting that has resolved the impasse on this project.

I also want to commend the Department of Sport , under Ministers Varadkar and Minster Ring who have also been very helpful, said Cllr Tom O’Leary

Local Fine Gael Candidate Jean Fay Brady has been lobbying me as a Councillor to deliver amenities for the large young population in Balbriggan. She was a founding member of Ar Aghaidh group in Balbriggan that identified the need for more sports facilities in November 2012 in Balbriggan. Said Cllr O’Leary

“ I am delighted to hear the good news that Balbriggan Swimming pool will proceed. Its about time the major town of Balbriggan got the sports it has been waiting for said Balbriggan resident Jean Fay Brady

It has full planning permission and also €4,25m grant aid available from the Government and Fingal Co Council said Cllr O’Leary

After a meeting on Friday 4th April in the Department of Sports with Fingal Co Council officials and Office of Public Works (OPW) agreement has been reached after waiting many years, to advertise this excellent project for expressions of interest .

The promoters of this project Balbriggan Rugby Club and Fingal County Council need to find a suitable private partner to build and operate this fine amenity complex with a 25m swimming pool. It will be a great addition to Balbriggan with its large young population said Cllr Tom O’Leary
