Fingal Adult Education – Class of 2014 FETAC Awards Ceremony

The Fingal Adult Education Service hosted their QQI (formerly known as FETAC) Awards ceremony in the Bracken Court Balbriggan on Thursday 26th of February recognising the achievements of the graduates from the class of 2014. From the start of the evening there was an air of excitement

as graduates turned out in their cap and gowns to receive awards in a diverse range of areas; Childcare at Level 4, 5 and 6, Healthcare Level 5, E-Business Level 5, VTOS Business, Make Up Artistry Level 5, Retail Sales, IT Skills and General Learning L2, L3 and L4.  In total 108 participants achieved full awards on the evening, however, a further 500 participants who achieved component certificates are currently working towards their full awards.

Speakers on the night included Austin Wynne, AEO of Fingal Adult Education, Paul O’Toole, CEO, Solas and Paul Reid, CEO, Fingal County Council.  Also in attendance were Fionnuala Anderson, Education Officer DDLETB, Brendan Ryan, TD, Cllr Pat Hand, Chairperson of DDLETB, Cllr Grainne Maguire, Cllr. Malachy Quinn together with invited guests from the Education and Career Guidance sectors. The guest speakers, Paul O’Toole and Paul Reid acknowledged the time, commitment and inspiration that the graduates provided to their peers and families in completing their studies.They also acknowledged the important role that education plays in our economic recovery and how our graduating students are now fully qualified and in a position to gain employment.  They also shared their own personal journey through education.

Three graduates Brendan Mooney, Geraldine Bissett and Hamid Naseem shared their experiences of returning to education, identifying their learning goals and how they continue on their lifelong learning journey. They spoke of the huge support and encouragement they received from the tutors and staff.  This too was acknowledged by Austin Wynne when he addressed the graduates at the opening of the ceremony. For some graduates their learning journey begins with the Fingal Adult Education service for others it is the culmination of a numbers of years reaching their end goal. Whatever the goal is the Fingal Adult Education Service hope to facilitate more learners in achieving their potential.
