Funding Secured for Balbriggan Lighthouse Dome

Cllr Tony Murphy (Ind) is delighted to have secured funding from Fingal County Council for the replacement of the Lighthouse Dome in Balbriggan. The Lighthouse Dome was removed in the 1960s due to corrosion. Local efforts over the past 50 years to have the dome replaced have been unsuccessful.  “Since being elected to Fingal County Council a year ago, I have been approached on numerous occasions by local people to try and secure the necessary funding for this important project.

“I feel that Balbriggan has so much to offer and has a lot of potential as a tourism destination, but we need serious investment to compete for this market.

“I understand that there are many projects in Balbriggan that are in need of funding but this iconic landmark, which has historical significance for the town, I feel should be progressed as soon as possible.”

“I’m delighted to announce that following my representations, Fingal County Council has approved the necessary funding”.

Planning permission was granted in 2014 for the replacement of the dome. It’s expected that work will commence by the end of the summer and will be completed by Christmas.

“I am currently involved in negotiations to bring a number of projects to Balbriggan and the Lighthouse Dome replacement is just the beginning.”
