Great day at the Rockabill Off Road Beach Races in Balbriggan

August 25, 2019 0

Rockabill Off-Road Racing hosted their inaugural Beach Race event on Sunday 25th August in Balbriggan. The event took place on Balbriggan’s main beach which is nestled between the Martello Tower and the town’s beautiful lighthouse. This spectacular location is ideal for such an event, not only was the event unique, it was also a historic occasion! Motorcycle beach racing was very popular in the early 1900s and the last official beach race held in the Republic of Ireland took place on Portmarnock beach in the early 1930s.

The day saw eight different race grades, with a finale race in honor of local motorcycle racing enthusiast George Gaffney. The winning rider from each grade battled it out to win this prestigious award.

A well organised and exciting event. Well done to all involved!
