Balbriggan Tourism organised a talk on the world-renowned Irish artist Harry Clarke and his connection to Balbriggan in SS Peter & Paul’s Church.  The talk was  presented by Jessica O’Donnell, Curator and Acting Head of Collections from the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin who gave a wonderful insight into Harry and his works.

Born in Dublin on March 17th, 1889, Harry was a leading figure in the Irish Arts and Crafts Movement.  SS Peter & Paul’s Church in Balbriggan contains two of Harry Clarke’s windows that are considered to be among his finest – the visitation and the widow’s son. The original commission for the windows came from Canon Byrne of Balbriggan. The windows were finally erected later in 1924 at a cost of £116 (Bowe: 1994). Both windows were designed and executed by Harry Clarke.
