The importance of business supporters to Balbriggan/North County Dublin Branch of guide dogs

November 11, 2017 0

We in the Balbriggan/North County Dublin Branch of guide dogs are very lucky in the amount of business supporters we have in the area and one such supporter is Monica Tolan Beauty & Skincare specialists in Balbriggan. The other people Irish guide dogs for the blind can’t manage without are puppy walkers. These are the people who take the pups at 6 weeks of age and keep them until they are around a year when they must give them up.

These puppies then go to I.G.D.B. cork where they begin their formal training to become a guide dog for a blind person or an assistance dog for a family who have a child with Autism

The litters of puppies are named through the alphabet so if you have 10 pups in a litter all the pups name begin with the same letter. Tom O’Neills first guide dog was Frank, the F litter so Frank’s siblings were Fred, Fota, Faron and Felix

So years later when the R letter came along you had Rhona and Rubble. Rhona is puppy walked in Skerries by Barry Kelly and Rubble in Malahide by Ronan Daly. Thank you lads

So we linked the business owner Rhona Tolan to Rhona the puppy and the lines of an old rhyme comes to mind. Mirror, Mirror on the wall who is the more beautiful of the two Rhonas

Sincerest thanks to all of our business supporters without whose support we could not do without.

This time of year the branch has it’s Christmas Cards and 2018 calendar for sale. Again local business are coming on board to support us so go along to any of the below and buy some Christmas Cards or a calendar of one of these wonderful supporters of ours.

Brian Fintan of the Dublin Senior Football team and all Ireland winner for 2017 took time out recently to give his support to the sale of the calendar and cards in the bracken court hotel balbriggan. Brian said to tom O’neill and Andrew Green both guide dog owners from Balbriggan who are in the picture with him that the calendar would make a beautiful present to anybody who had a love for dogs like he does and that he had a dog of his own

The pack of 8 cards sell for €6 per pack or two packs for €10. The calendar sells for €8. You can contact the branch on 0857663107 or

Thank you all for supporting us.
