Late Night Soccer League Finals in Irishtown

December 8, 2019 0

The Late Night League is run by the FAI in conjunction with An Garda Síochána and local county councils all over Dublin. It runs for 4 weeks on Friday nights and this year it was hosted by Glebe North FC.  This year it started on 8th November and had a very good attendance. Over the four weeks teams compete to win a trip to the finals in Irishtown. This year 2 junior teams (under 15) and 1 senior team (15 – 17) were brought to Irishtown on a bus provided specifically by Dublin bus. They were accompanied on the bus by Garda Tim, Garda Peter, Darrell Mooney and Padraig Dunne from Glebe North FC.

On the night the Balbriggan senior team were by far the best senior team at the event but unluckily lost after extra time and penalties in the semi-final to eventual winners Baldoyle. However they were awarded medals for fair play by Assistant Commissioner Leahy and will receive tickets to the next Ireland football friendly at the Aviva Stadium.

It shows that despite the FAI’s dodgy governance the grass roots do a lot. The leagues would not be able to go ahead and have positive outcomes without the efforts of people like Darrell and Padraig.
