New schools for Fingal welcome but funding to fix existing schools is just as vital

Brendan Ryan, Labour TD for Dublin Fingal, has welcomed the announcement that new schools will be provided in the towns of Swords and Donabate but has called on the Government to ensure funding is also prioritised to fix and extend existing schools  Ryan “Fingal is a growing County and the provision of new schools is vital. I am glad for example to see a commitment to two new primary schools in Swords, in particular in South Swords. The most chronic issue for school placement in Swords in recent years has been in the Rivervalley area and this matter needs to be addressed. A 16 room classroom for Donabate is also much needed and is great to see included in this announcement.”

St Molaga’s in Balbriggan is one such school which requires urgent work to be done. I also see schools such as Fingal Community College which is operating a wonderful school but in a very small space.

Hedgestown School in Lusk is also in need of new buildings. I recently called on the Minister to advance the construction of a new school building for the existing St Michael’s House School in Skerries. These are all vital projects, and are just a sample of the existing projects in Fingal which need to be advanced as soon as possible. New schools are needed and this news is to be welcomed but existing schools are as important and the Government needs to ensure priority is given to these school also”
