Niamh Fay won Gold at the European Youth Championships in Bulgaria on Tuesday with a high-octane, high-punching performance.  Fay, who started boxing at Balbriggan’s Bracken Boxing Club now boxes out of Swords boxing club and comfortably saw off her Croatian opponent in the final.  She overcame Nikolina Cacic on a 4-1 split decision 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 28-29  to take the 54kg title in Bulgaria.

Niamh’s dad Gary Fay won several Irish titles so boxing is certainly in her blood and she won four fights en route to gold in Bulgaria. Ireland will be taking home one gold and three bronze medals from Sofia, courtesy of Fay, Daina Moorehouse, Leah Gallen and Lisa O’Rourke.

A large crowd turned out in Ballyboughal to welcome Niamh home with her medal.  Congratulations Niamh on a great win…
