DO NOT SWIM notice issued for Balbriggan Beach

20-Sep-19: The DO NOT SWIM restriction in Balbriggan has been extended to 26tth September 2019.  Bathing is prohibited due to unacceptable levels of bacteria in a recent bathing water sample.  Likely cause is reported to be contamination of Surface Waters (misconnections/urban runoff).

14-Sep-19: The DO NOT SWIM restriction has been extended to the 18th September.  A repeat sample to be taken on 16th September and the results are expected on 18th September.  Investigation ongoing.  Members of the public intending to enter the water at any beach in Ireland are advised to check the water quality in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.

12-Sep-19: Fingal County Council have issued a DO NOT SWIM notice for Balbriggan Beach due to unacceptable levels of bacteria in a recent bathing water sample .  They report water quality deteriorated due to suspected impacts from animals/birds and contamination of urban surface waters discharging into bathing water and the expected duration of the ban is 72 hours.
