O’Dwyers Ladies U15 Division One Championship Final

November 5, 2011 0

On Saturday 5 th November O’Dwyers Under 15’s played against Ballyboden St Endas A. A high profile weekend of Dublin ladies GAA Championship Matches saw the O’Dwyers girl’s teams compete in no less than three Finals and a Semi-Final.

The weekend began with the Saturday afternoon top-of-the-pile Division One Championship Final clash between the all-conquering Ballyboden St Enda’s, and the O’Dwyers u15 girls who recently earned promotion to the top-flight via their heart-stopping ‘come-from-behind’ play-off final win over Castleknock. The u15 coach Damien Prout & his mentors set out at the beginning of the season with the target of trying to gain promotion to the top-tier of ladies u15 football, which they achieved in style, not only by winning League Division Two, but also with the huge bonus (and reward for all their hard work) of reaching the Division One Championship Final at the very first attempt, claiming notable scalps along the way, particularly in the shape of city giants Kilmacud Crokes.

Alas, on the day, despite grabbing an early lead, it was the vast experience of Ballyboden that won the day, and the Balbriggan girls, although very disappointed at how the game finished, should remember that when they reflect on their early season wish-list, they have actually vastly over-achieved!

In fact, It is a measure of the massive progress they have made over the last couple of seasons, that a Division One Championship Final loss to Ballyboden St Endas, should result in such disappointment! These girls now realise that the pre-season training they all put-in, beginning last February in the cold, dark and frost, was the springboard for this seasons successes and indeed several matches were won late-on as the opposition tired.

There is no doubt that the experience gained this season can only make the girls wiser and even stronger, and a bright future lies ahead.
