Over the last twelve months, Community Garda Maurice Cunningham and Superintendent Twomey have liaised with all secondary schools in the District (Balbriggan, Rush, Lusk, Skerries Schools) in a Forum capacity. The principals and counsellors of the schools attended the meetings and they discussed matters that are affecting all.

garda_siochana_logoThe Forum has been successful in creating a deeper bond between An Garda Siochana and the secondary schools. In our district and like many others, it was highlighted that there is a concern in relation to the online content and use of internet and phones that children under the age of 18 are engaging in.

Community Garda have been delivering the “BE In Control” programme across the district and educating the students in relation to internet/phone safety.

It was proposed that Transition Year students design an online safety leaflet which would be presented to students and parents alike, the leaflet will be used by all our secondary schools in the district as a common and united front and our Community Garda can also use at talks to students or engagements in the future.

Transition Year students from Ardgillan Community College, Balbriggan with assistance from Garda Maurice Cunningham have created an Online Safety Leaflet which was launched at Balbriggan Community College, Balbriggan on Friday the 28th February.
