Ryan calls on Ross to support increased service for 101 Bus Eireann routeJune 13, 2018 ADMIN 0
Brendan Ryan TD, Labour Party Spokesperson for Transport has called on Minister Shane Ross to support an increased service for the 101 Bus Éireann route, as currently people living in the town of Balrothery are being left behind at peak times. Ryan “An increase in the 101 Bus Éireann Route is urgently required owing to the growing needs of the Balrothery community in particular. Currently, there is no Dublin Bus or Irish Rail service in place for residents of Balrothery, hence the 101 service is the only transportation option available. There are over 2000 residents living in Balrothery currently, many of whom regularly commute to the city centre for work.”
Due to the large area the 101 route is currently serving, it is often the case that the bus has reached full capacity by the time it arrives at Balrothery.
Ryan continued “This is simply an unacceptable situation for residents, given the fact that no other alternative transportation services are in place.”
In response, Minister Ross stated that the National Transport Authority in conjunction with Bus Éireann is due to review the services along the M1 Corridor in late 2018.
Ryan “This is a deeply unsatisfactory response, as residents require an immediate solution, to ensure that a reliable transport system is in place to serve the community. Residents cannot continue to operate under a single service transportation system, which is often at risk of reaching full capacity, causing large disruption. Therefore, Minister Ross must support an increase in the 101 Bus Éireann route, to ensure that residents in Fingal and Balrothery have access to an adequate and reliable transport system.”
