St Oliver Plunkett NS Balrothery to have Prefabs Replaced by ClassroomsSeptember 18, 2013 ADMIN 0
Brendan Ryan Labour TD for Dublin Fingal has welcomed confirmation today that three local schools are to get new classroom(s) as part of the latest phase of the Prefab Replacement Scheme.
The schools include Patrick’s Junior School Skerries, Holmpatrick NS, Skerries and St Oliver Plunkett NS Balrothery. St Oliver Plunkett NS, Balrothery, Balbriggan, Co Dublin has been approved for: 1 x 80m² and 3 x 16m².
Ryan “This is good news for the local area, not to mention for the teachers and schoolchildren. The schools concerned have already been in negotiation with the Minister for Education, Ruairi Quinn, and his officials in the Department regarding the need for permanent accommodation on site, so it is great to see these new builds finally being confirmed.”
Ryan “Despite the tough economic situation this country faces, substantial investment continues to be made in local education by Labour in Government. This scheme alone has been allocated approximately €57 million allocated by Minister Quinn in 2012 and this year. The phasing-out of inefficient and out dated prefabs was a key commitment in the Programme for Government and today’s news shows that we are delivering on that pledge locally. Not only will it mean high-quality accommodation for pupils and teachers and construction-related jobs for workers in the local area, but substantial savings will be made by removing the prefabs. Between last year and this year alone, we have reduced the overall prefab rental bill by 25% and these savings is set to grow as the Scheme continues.”
“This announcement is proof that Labour Ministers are delivering in local communities, particularly in the area of education. I welcome today’s confirmation and look forward to work on the new classrooms getting underway in North Co Dublin very soon.”
