Students Excel at Youthreach Balbriggan Awards Ceremony

On 17th October Youthreach Balbriggan held their certificate presentation to recognise students’ achievements in the Bracken Court Hotel. At the event, the students (past and present) received certificates for courses they completed during the 2012 2013 academic year, including – FETAC courses, First Aid courses, a Drug Education programme with Foroige Youth Services, Job seeking skills workshops with FastTrack to Information Technology (FIT) and a music workshop with Songschool. Some students were also presented with the President’s (GAISCE) Awards on the night.

YouthreachThere was a great atmosphere at the event as past and present students accompanied by family and friends, fellow students and centre staff, received certificates for their various achievements. Two students from Youthreach Balbriggan, Hayden Holloman and Andrew Lyons spoke on the night about their own personal experience of attending Youthreach.

Guest speaker at the Presentation was Mr. Andrew O’Neill, Group Operations Director at the Choice Hotel Group, who spoke about the value of education and the impact it can have on changing young peoples’ lives. Mr. O’Neill presented the students with their FETAC certificates while representatives from Foroige, Songschool and FIT presented their respective course certificates.

Some of the students receiving certificates at the event will continue to attend Youthreach Balbriggan for a second year where they will progress on to studying for FETAC level 4 certification.

The students will study subjects as diverse as Communications and Horticulture, Maths and Catering. Past students have progressed on to further education / training courses and some have taken up employment.

Youthreach Balbriggan is located at Sarsfield House, Mill Street, Balbriggan and can be contacted on 01 9680600. It is an integral part of the national programme of second-chance education and training in Ireland and is directed at unemployed young early school leavers aged 16-20. Operated on a full-time, year-round basis it offers participants the opportunity to identify and pursue viable options within adult life, and provides them with opportunities to acquire certification.
