The Principal of Ardgillan Community College Mr Michael O’Leary, arranged for a party of about 20 students and some parents to join up with Balbriggan Tidy Towns at the Church Roundabout for work at 11:00am on Saturday 24th November 2012.

balbriggan_tidy_towns_logo_smallerThe carefully chosen project was the planting of 500 daffodil bulbs and 6 boxes of miscellaneous herbaceous plants. Soft drinks were available to quench thirst. Conversation flowed while participants got to know each other better and somehow the work got done. The sun did not shine but at least the rain stayed away while work was completed by 12.30pm. Some pictures were taken of the group .

An extensive collection of green material estimated at 40 cherry trees , about 40 cotoneaster shrubs and about 120 herbaceous plants are now held in reserve for winter planting . In addition we have purchased about 1,500 daffodil bulbs so volunteers and locations for planting these are particularly welcome. This was a small but significant step forward in achieving youth interest in the town environment and also in the Tidy Towns.
