Velo Club Balrothery is a small cycling club based in the village of Balrothery, North county Dublin. We cater for touring, sportifs, cyclocross, MTB and predominantly road cycling and racing. The Race around Ireland starting on Sunday 25th August, is now in its 10th year. It is an Ultra Endurance non-stop race around the island of Ireland. Starting and finishing in Trim it is 2,150 km long(with 22,000m of climbing). It is open to both solo riders and teams who ride the event in relay.

Velo Club Balrothery is entering a 4 man relay team this year. It is first and foremost an athletic challenge for the riders and crew involved but we are also trying to raise money for the Remember us charity in Balbriggan.

The team this year is managed by Brian Farren himself a racing cyclist for VCB. The riders are John McCormack (previously a silver medalist in the Race around Ireland Ultra as a solo rider), Eddie Guildea a relative newcomer to cycling but an ex boxer and Irish running champion, Garth Dargle a top level racing cyclist who completed the Majorca 300km this year at 32kph and Skerries man Martin Casey who this year was also part of a medal winning crew for Fingal rowing club.

This team supported by an extensive back up crew are aiming to finish within the tough time limit but also hoping to compete for the overall 4 man prize.

The riders have been training hard all year for this event and between them have over 50,000kms clocked up in training. They are supported by the club VC Balrothery and its sponsors.
