On Sunday 26th August 2018 a four man team from Velo Club Balrothery; John McCormack, Eddie Guildea, Garth Dargle and Martin Casey, began the challenge to complete the Race around Ireland.  Race around Ireland is an Ultra Endurance non-stop race around the island of Ireland. Starting and finishing in Trim it is 2,150 km long (with 22,000m of climbing).  Solo riders will spend up to 22 hours on their bikes, while the teams rotate as part of a relay, for 24 hours a day.

The four man team from Balrothery completed the race in 75 hours and 4 minutes, four hours ahead of their nearest competitor.  It was a race that challenged the riders whilst raising awareness and funds for Remember Us. The four man  squad brought considerable cycling and adventure racing pedigree to the event.

The team told “This was not just a race for us, this was a chance to showcase the hard work of Remember Us special needs group and to help them as best we can.”

A big congratulations to John, Eddie, Garth and Martin on this fantastic achievement…
