Way To Go St Mary’s Baton Twirlers!May 4, 2017 ADMIN 0
The 25th National Baton Twirling Championships of the Association of Baton Twirling in Ireland were held on the 8th and 9th of April in Gormanston Park. The championships showcased the super talent that baton twirling has on offer in Ireland and St Mary’s Baton Twirlers had their most successful championships in Many years.
St. Mary’s Baton Twirlers who are based out of St Patrick’s GAA Hall Stamullen, are celebrating their 38th year in existence this year and to help with their celebrations, the athletes did themselves and the club Proud.
Our athletes range in ages from 3 years to 20 years and on the Nationals weekend, 38 of their members participated in solo and team events. St Mary’s Baton Twirlers have grown and thrived over the past few years and it was clear that their hard work, determination and teamwork paid off.
St Mary’s took home 18 gold medal positions, 22 silver positions, 18 bronze positions as well as every member being placed in one or more of their events. This is a success in itself!
Coach Dinah Black said, ‘We are very proud of our athletes. This tremendous success shows that hard work definitely does pay off’. These fantastic results cumulated to allow St Mary’s be awarded 2nd place in the overall placement of clubs, a result that club Members, parents, supporters and their coaches celebrated at the end of the championships.
‘We did it’ says Susan, another coach of the club, ‘We went out with a target and we out did ourselves. We are very proud of our athletes.’
This again shows that the hard work and dedication that has gone into the club from their members over the past few years. All of this adds to the fact that 12 members of St Mary’s will again represent Ireland in the EFBT (European Federation of Baton Twirling) Twirling Championships in Tortosa, Catalonia, Spain which will be held at end of June.
The club are now getting ready for their next competition which takes place in May, so keep and eye for more great results in the near future!
St Mary’s will also participate in the Tractor Run in Balscadden on 28th May, so there’s lots happening for the club at the moment!
The coaches, Dinah, Susan, Michael, Sharon and Tara would like to say a huge well done again to all of their fantastic members as well as a Thank You to all of their supporters for their continued help.
