Whale Rescued from Gormanston BeachJune 20, 2013 ADMIN 0
The Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue And Recovery Service, Irish Coast Guard, Skerries RNLI and members of B coy, 27th Infantry Battalion based in Gormanston assisted a 25 foot adult pilot whale back out to sea this morning after it was found on Gormanston beach in county Meath, just north of Balbriggan. Skerries RNLI launched their inshore lifeboat following reports from a lady who was out walking her dog that the whale had become beached. The crews worked as gentle as possible and in a couple of hours managed to get the whale (who weighed approx. 2.5 tons) back into the open sea. A fantastic success for the all the groups involved. A BIG well done to you alll!
